Interior Design in Porter Ranch: A Playroom, Reimagined for Fun, Function, and Flexibility
If you’ve ever tried to make a playroom that’s both fun for the kids and sophisticated enough for adult company, you know it’s not an easy balance to strike. But here at Dani Alexander Interiors, we specialize in creating spaces that work for every member of the family—whether it's for a game night with the kids or hosting friends and family. Welcome to the Woodrose playroom, a multi-functional masterpiece that’s equal parts cozy, stylish, and practical.
A Game Room That’s Built to Last
For this playroom, the design had to check a lot of boxes. First and foremost, it needed to function as a game room for two active older kids. So, we placed two TVs side by side for an optimal gaming experience—because who wants to choose which game to play when you can have them both? And, of course, no gaming room is complete without comfyseating. Enter the low gaming chairs, perfect for kids to sink into while they battle it out on screen (and just as comfy for Dad when he joins in on the action).
Turning Fun Into Function with a Guest Room Twist
But here’s where the real magic happens: We also transformed this playroom into a versatile guest room. Because, let's be real, when you have a big family, the need for extra sleeping space is real. So, we added a sleeper sofa that’s perfect for accommodating overnight guests. When the sofa is in use, the gaming chairs and coffee table can easily be moved into the garage, keeping the room spacious and functional. The sofa and chairs were selected with family-friendly materials in mind, ensuring they hold up to everything from pizza stains to puppy paws (hello, Max, the family dog!).

Smart Storage and a Cozy Touch
Of course, a functional playroom wouldn’t be complete without a bit of smart storage. We added some locker storage (after the photos were taken) to house all of R’s toys—because let’s face it, a 3-year-old’s toy collection is never small. Now, the room stays tidy, even after the most epic game sessions, and the toys are always easily accessible but neatly stored away when they’re not in use.
A Room That’s Sophisticated Enough for Guests
The parents requested that this room not only serve as a playroom but also be sophisticated enough to transition into a guest room. The overall design is subtle and grown-up enough to feel polished, but playful enough to keep the kids entertained. To bring the space together, we added a big, cozy rug that invites friends and family to gather and hang out on the floor during game time.

Shoutout to The Go To Girls
As always, I had some amazing collaborators to make this project come to life! For the organizational aspect of the playroom, I worked with Ashlee and Stacey from The Go To Girls. Their expertise in creating practical and stylish storage solutions helped us keep this space functional and clutter-free, while still maintaining that cozy vibe.
